Re: “If you don’t have time to go to Bangladesh go to Brick Lane and you are there,”
I was in a tattoo convention in the Old Brewery some time back, we went for some food up the road. The place had just opened. I asked for a bit of pie n mash as it was on the menu, the fella said it would be quite a while, then told someone to turn on the lights in the cabinet to heat up the pies.
We left, and after being harassed by a load of no marks inviting us into their restaurants, we chose a place. After we had ordered, the music came on so loud that we couldn't speak. Fucking Aliens.

Re: “If you don’t have time to go to Bangladesh go to Brick Lane and you are there,”
Still go down the lane every Sunday. It's shrinking though as the new 'apartments' go up. (there's only the Bethnal Green end with stalls and some down club row (and a small square with stalls)
You can still get off the cuff/unusual bits and pieces if you look about.

Blackmans is still going strong for your daisys.
And on Roy's record stall (by the crossroads), Trevor who helps him out is West Ham and puts bubbles on, in between Bowie, Stones, Free, Stranglers etc etc.

The hipsters are in the corn flake shop and giving out flyers for the 'vintage' shops. (Loads of em queue outside the 338 cafe further down Bethnal Green rd to have the breakfast. Apparently it's a fry up with pancakes on it! Prob charge em a cockle each at least. Muppets.

Good few characters by the coffee stall where you can get hold of something or the other.

Lot of tourists down there mainly for the beigel shop of course ma boy. Then they carry on through to the Brewery end, then on to Spitalfields. (They're not interested in the hooky mountain bikes.

Went down to Mendoza on Brick Lane during the afternoon of the Chelsea home match. Had not been down there for a while, but it was certainly no better or worse than I seemed to remember it...

MOO Cantina - Argentinian steak house

Jack the Clipper - hipster barbers

Gavros, I can believe that, so with all these hipsters moving in what necessities will they sell to pay the high rents and rates that you can't get online?

Re: “If you don’t have time to go to Bangladesh go to Brick Lane and you are there,”
brick lane market does cracking trade. what's being talked about here are the bangladeshi places going out of business, because (a) the competitive race to the bottom has made the food shit and (b) rent are going up as hipster-oriented shops are opening up.
